Meet Abby
Speech Pathologist
Hi, I'm Abby.
I've been a Speech Pathologist for over 10 years, and love supporting people to achieve their communication and feeding goals.
My approach as a Speech Pathologist is client and family centred, play-based and child-led, and prioritises felt safety and trust. When sessions are engaging, motivating, fun, and meaningful, that's where the magic happens. I truly think it is a privilege to be invited into your life to support you, and that my job is to listen, understand, and work with you, not just tell you what to do or change. I also know what it is like to be a busy parent, so I aim to provide recommendations that are individualised and realistic for each family. I implement evidence-based practice, drawing from the available research, and combining this with the valuable learning from individual's lived experience.
My approach will always be neurodiversity affirming, valuing diversity in neurotypes, and recognising the unique strengths, experiences, abilities and support needs of each individual. With this approach comes a focus on not only my clients, but also the world and people around them, as affirming and supportive environments help them truly thrive. I have a strong passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals and families, including those who are formally identified, or who are questioning/exploring their neurodivergence. As a late-identified AuDHDer myself, I understand the importance and value of learning about your own neurotype and how to nurture it. I have particular interest in supporting Autism, ADHD, Giftedness (& Twice Exceptionality), Specific Learning Impairments, Intellectual Impairments, non-speaking or minimally-speaking individuals, and situational mutism.
Aside from being a Speech Pathologist, I am also a wife and mother, with two clever, cheeky daughters, and two loyal, loving dogs keeping me busy! Outside of work, you'll probably find me jumping between a bunch of current hobbies or projects. I love spending time outdoors, swimming, doing pilates, camping, playing board/card/video games, doing anything and everything crafty, cooking up a storm (and mess) in the kitchen, having dance parties in the living room with my kids, gardening, or deep diving on the latest topic I've decided I need to know everything about!
